Prambanan Ekspres Train Proposed to Extend to Kebumen with Three New Stops
Kebumen — Plans to extend the Prambanan Ekspres (Prameks) train route to Kebumen Regency are making progress. Currently, the train operates only on the Yogyakarta route (Tugu Station) to Kutoarjo Station in Purworejo.
The proposal submitted by the Kebumen District Government has received a positive response from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), and has now entered the technical feasibility study phase.
The meeting represented an initial step to assess the possibility of extending the Prameks route, which currently serves the Yogyakarta region and surrounding areas, to reach Kebumen.
Regent Lilis stated that the development of this train service is expected to improve public transport access for the community whilst driving regional economic growth.
“Through synergy between the Kebumen District Government and PT KAI, we hope that the quality of public transport services continues to improve. Good transportation is the key to driving people’s economy,” Lilis said in an official statement on Sunday (15 March 2026).
Meanwhile, Kebumen Regional Secretary Edi Rianto explained that the meeting with KAI covered several important points. He stated that one of the main focuses was the proposal to extend the Prameks route from Yogyakarta to Kebumen with several stops within Kebumen Regency.
The Kebumen District Government proposed three station points that could serve as train stops.
“The proposal was welcomed positively by PT KAI. They are currently conducting technical calculations regarding operations and supporting facilities,” said Edi.
One of the ideas proposed was utilising the train to distribute products from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Kebumen at special rates.
Through this scheme, local products are expected to reach wider markets, particularly large cities connected to the national railway network.
