Pram optimistic that waste processing in markets will reduce burden on Bantargebang
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is optimistic that the burden of waste delivery to the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantargebang can be reduced through waste processing systems in markets. One example, he said, is the organic waste processing system at Pasar Kramat Jati in East Jakarta, which will handle around five tonnes of waste each day. “I am convinced that if this programme can be implemented, it will be very beneficial in reducing the waste delivery burden from markets to Bantargebang,” said the man familiarly known as Pram at Pasar Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Monday. Currently, Pasar Jaya manages 153 markets, with an estimated 500 tonnes of waste sent to TPST Bantargebang. Through these waste processing efforts, Pramono believes the delivery burden to TPST Bantargebang will gradually decrease. Moreover, he said, the system will also be applied to markets not managed by Pasar Jaya. “Hopefully, it will run well and address waste issues that bring greater environmental benefits, as organic waste can be turned into fertiliser,” Pramono explained. He also emphasised that the waste sorting movement should be implemented on a massive scale in Jakarta immediately. He claimed to have instructed city mayors, district heads, sub-district heads, down to RT/RW levels to begin applying the movement. Gradually, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing the necessary waste management facilities and infrastructure for residents. “Slowly, of course, we will prepare the facilities and infrastructure. But the most important thing is that it must be sustainable and not stop, because this is what will change the face of Jakarta,” Pramono stated.
