Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Palace has been opened for school children’s visits on the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto to introduce the younger generation to the government environment.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the opening of the Presidential Palace is part of President Prabowo’s desire to provide direct experiences to students regarding the nation’s history and the government process.

“Today, Tuesday, 7 April 2026, on the instructions and wishes of President Prabowo, we are opening the Palace for school children. So, colleagues should know together that one of President Prabowo’s biggest programmes is investing in building and shaping the younger generation,” said Teddy at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The instruction was implemented on Tuesday, marked by a visit from students of State Vocational High School 19 (SMKN 19) Central Jakarta.

Teddy explained that the activities during the students’ visit included discussions and question-and-answer sessions inside the building, tours around the Palace, and introductions to the rooms where important national decisions are made.

“There were many who gave testimonials earlier. So, they just saw the President’s room, the place where ministers are inaugurated, the place where the President signs, the place where the President usually receives guests and the people. So, in essence, President Prabowo wants the Palace to be opened as widely as possible to the people. During Eid, during other major holidays, and this is for school children,” said Teddy.

“Later, this activity will not only be at Merdeka Palace and State Palace, but also at other Presidential Palaces throughout Indonesia. We have eight, each Palace will also be opened for school children,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Teddy added that schools from outside Jakarta or outside Java Island will be facilitated to join the visits by registering through the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat.

The visit schedule will be arranged periodically, between one to two times per week.

Teddy also conveyed that there is no special selection for schools wishing to join this programme, so all schools can register.

“President Prabowo wants (school students) to just enter the Palace, get to know it, they see it directly. They see, they can have experiences there, and insyaallah they will have big aspirations. There might be no selection. So, please register as I mentioned earlier, then it will be arranged by the committee,” said Teddy.

On that occasion, Teddy added that the opening of the Presidential Palace to students is part of the youth development programme initiated by President Prabowo, which includes providing nutritious meals, school renovations and sanitation facilities, installation of digital televisions for learning, as well as developing various school models and improving teacher welfare.

“So, in essence, President Prabowo wants the Palace to be opened as widely as possible to the people. During Eid, during other major holidays, and this is for school children,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

Teddy said that the enthusiasm of the students was evident in the inaugural visit. Some students were seeing the palace environment directly for the first time, including the president’s work room and the location for inaugurating state officials.
