Yogyakarta City Government has distributed sacrificial beef from President Prabowo Subianto’s Eid al-Adha Qurban specifically to residents living along the Code River this year.

Mayor Hasto Wardoyo stated that the 1-ton Simmental Limousin beef from Prabowo was allocated exclusively for residents along the Code River, particularly in Gemblakan Bawah Village, Danurejan District, Yogyakarta.

“The selection of distribution locations for the President’s sacrificial beef is based on the demographic conditions of the Code Riverbank area, which is densely populated and predominantly inhabited by low-income families,” Hasto said while monitoring the slaughter of Prabowo’s sacrificial cattle in Yogyakarta on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Approximately 300 households in the riverbank area are targeted to receive the sacrificial beef. Hasto added that this special allocation aims to strengthen community unity and bring joy to riverbank residents during the festive occasion.

Hasto explained that the Yogyakarta City Government’s policy this year for distributing sacrificial animals focuses on improving the welfare of communities along the riverbanks.

In total, eight cattle and five goats managed and distributed by local government authorities in the area were sourced from the Indonesian President, the Yogyakarta Special Region Governor, regional state-owned enterprises, and the city government itself.

The breakdown of sacrificial animals includes one 1,000-kilogram bull from the Indonesian President allocated to the Takmir of Masjid Keramat Al-Islam Gemblakan Bawah in Suryatmajan, Danurejan.

Another 800-kilogram bull from the Yogyakarta Special Region Governor was allocated to Masjid Al-Barokah Kleben in Pakuncen, Wirobrajan.

Additional cattle donations came from PT BPD DIY Senopati Branch (one bull), PT BPR Bank Jogja (Persero) (one bull), PDAM Tirtamarta Yogyakarta (one bull), as well as personal contributions from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor comprising two bulls and four goats.

Hasto outlined the specific rationale behind targeting riverbank areas as primary beneficiaries of this year’s Qurban.

“The message is specifically for the welfare of riverbank communities. Beyond sharing with orphans and the destitute, it also aims to foster solidarity, empathy, and mutual assistance in maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the river area as the city’s lifeline,” Hasto said.

He also emphasised that the allocation was adjusted based on actual community needs on the ground, with most slaughters directed to slaughterhouses to ensure health standards.

“Cattle from the President, Governor, and other donations are allocated to areas that truly require assistance,” Hasto stated. “The hope is that year-on-year, this initiative becomes more vibrant as an example of Qurban practices in Yogyakarta City.”

Vingky Kurnia, a representative of Code Riverbank residents from Gemblakan Bawah, expressed happiness that riverbank communities were prioritised for Qurban assistance. “This sacrificial beef aid is highly beneficial for us riverbank residents,” he said.

Hasto Pribadi, Chairman of the Masjid Keramat Al Islam Gemblakan Bawah Takmir, explained that the President’s Qurban was processed at the Giwangan Slaughterhouse (RPH), not by the riverbank. “The 1-ton sacrificial cattle was slaughtered at RPH Giwangan as it was deemed safer, more efficient, and hygienic,” he said.

According to him, Prabowo’s assistance has been a lifeline amid the sluggish economy and declining numbers of residents offering Qurban compared to previous years.
