Prabowo's Directive Leads to Polri Forming Task Force for Smuggling Law Enforcement
JAKARTA - Indonesian National Police (Polri) has formed a Task Force for law enforcement against criminal acts of smuggling that harm the state’s finances and wealth. Director of Economic and Special Crimes at Polri’s Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, stated that the formation of this Task Force follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. “A Task Force for law enforcement against criminal acts of smuggling that harm the state’s wealth has been formed through the Police Chief’s Decree,” Ade said in his statement on Thursday (16/4/2026). The Task Force aims to rigorously enforce laws against various criminal acts causing state revenue leaks. Ade explained that the Task Force’s primary focus is on combating various forms of smuggling, both illegal exports and illegal imports. The operation targets smuggling of natural resources (SDA) and environmental products, conducted within customs areas or outside them. For smuggling in customs areas, authorities will address various modi operandi such as under-invoicing, misinvoicing, and misdeclaration of goods, often referred to as document smuggling. Furthermore, Ade noted that the Task Force formation is not limited to Polri headquarters but has been expanded to all regional police commands (Polda) across Indonesia. According to him, Polri’s commitment to eradicating smuggling is part of efforts to safeguard state wealth, recover state financial losses, and prevent revenue leaks. Additionally, this step aims to protect natural resources and maintain national economic stability. “Rigorous law enforcement without discrimination to support national economic resilience, which is the foundation of state sovereignty,” Ade concluded.
