President Prabowo Subianto expressed his hopes for the Board of Peace during the first high-level meeting of the body pioneered by United States President Donald Trump, stating his desire for the council to deliver a solution to the Palestinian issue.

Prabowo acknowledged that the Board of Peace would face challenges along the way but expressed confidence that all problems would be overcome. "We will achieve our dream of peace in Palestine, a lasting and peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue and in Gaza," Prabowo said during his speech in Washington D.C. on Thursday, 19 February 2026 local time.

Prabowo said Indonesia joined the Board of Peace because it believes the body, which operates as a shadow United Nations institution, can bring about peace, particularly in Palestine. He noted that he had supported from the outset the 20-point plan for Gaza peace proposed by US President Donald Trump, who also initiated the Board of Peace.

The Gerindra Party chairman expressed optimism about Donald Trump's leadership of the Board of Peace. According to Prabowo, Trump would deliver genuine peace through the shadow United Nations body.

In his address, Prabowo conveyed his hopes for peace in Gaza and a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue. The former defence minister also reaffirmed his commitment to deploying Indonesian military personnel to Gaza as part of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) mission.

Indonesia is currently preparing approximately 8,000 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops for deployment to the Gaza Strip, Palestine, through the ISF. The ISF is planned to operate under the direction of the Board of Peace established by US President Donald Trump, which was approved by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803 on 17 November 2025.

During the Board of Peace's inaugural meeting on Thursday, US President Donald Trump expressed appreciation in his speech for the representatives of attending nations, including President Prabowo. Trump stated that countries joining the Board of Peace were not only contributing financially but were also willing to send personnel to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump then named Indonesia as one of the countries that would be sending troops to Gaza. "Indonesia, thank you very much, Indonesia. This is a great country," Trump said.

Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace has previously attracted criticism. The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), for instance, argued that membership in the US-led international body betrays the spirit and values of the Indonesian people, who have long sided with Palestine.

YLBHI highlighted the plan to deploy thousands of Indonesian soldiers to 'assist' the US and Israel in demilitarising Hamas in Palestine. YLBHI emphasised that this sets a dangerous precedent against Palestine's rights as a state.
