Prabowo Visits Miangas Island After Returning from the Philippines
President Prabowo Subianto returned to Indonesia after attending the 48th High-Level Conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Cebu, Philippines. Upon his return to the homeland, Prabowo undertook a working visit to Miangas Island.
Miangas is the island closest to the Indonesia-Philippines border. It is located in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi. Prabowo landed at Miangas Airport on Saturday, 9 May 2026, around 10:45 WITA. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo arrived in Miangas via a flight from the Philippines. “He returned to the homeland today, but before heading to Jakarta, he stopped by for some agendas there (Miangas),” said Sugiono, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday.
Prabowo’s arrival in Miangas was welcomed by several members of the Merah Putih Cabinet. Among them were Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
In addition, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita were also present.
Before heading to Miangas, Prabowo was in the Philippines from Thursday to Saturday this week. The former defence minister attended the ASEAN Summit.
While in the Philippines, Prabowo stated that conflicts and geopolitical rivalries would only bring negative impacts to the people and hinder regional development. Therefore, Prabowo said, ASEAN must prioritise dialogue and cooperation as the main foundation of inter-state relations.
Prabowo conveyed this during the plenary session of the 48th ASEAN Summit held at Mactan Expo, Cebu, Philippines. “We must not allow competition. We must not allow our past to determine our present and future. Indonesia is committed to building good neighbourly policies,” he said in Cebu, Philippines, on Friday, 8 May 2026, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s statement.
