Jakarta - The Chairman of the Indonesian National Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, has urged President Prabowo Subianto to issue a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) directing Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to implement the recommendations from the commission he leads.

“Inpres that instructs the Police Chief and his ranks to implement the recommendations agreed upon in this report,” Jimly said after meeting Prabowo at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

“So we propose the formation of a revision to the Law on the Indonesian National Police, which will then be followed up with a government regulation or presidential regulation,” Jimly added.

“This includes the agenda for internal reforms that must change around eight Police Regulations (Perpol) and 24 Chief of Police Regulations (Perkap), which are expected to be completed by 2029,” he continued.

“We also reported that, including the idea of establishing a Ministry of Security. We have agreed that we are not proposing a new ministry,” Jimly stated.

Jimly explained that the study by the Indonesian National Police Reform Acceleration Commission assessed that establishing a Ministry of Security would bring more harm than good.

“The President also asked earlier, we explained, our conclusion is that the benefits compared to the harms, the harms are greater. So we won’t propose that,” Jimly said.

On the same occasion, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the Bhayangkara Corps welcomes all proposals from the Indonesian National Police Reform Acceleration Commission.

“In principle, the Indonesian National Police welcomes the results of the recommendations from the Police Reform Commission and will immediately follow them up,” Listyo said.

Listyo added that all proposals from the KPRP will make the institution even better in the future.

“And then regarding governance issues, we have already prepared which ones fall into short-term, medium-term, and long-term grand strategies,” he continued.
