Prabowo Unveils Three Indonesian Strategic Commodities That Generate Rp1,100 Trillion in Foreign Exchange
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, in his address to the Plenary Session of the DPR/MPR RI on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, disclosed the substantial foreign exchange earned from Indonesia’s commodity exports. Even from just these three commodities, the figure could reach Rp1,100 trillion.
The three commodities are palm oil, coal, and ferroalloys.
Prabowo explained that Indonesia possesses highly valuable commodities, such as coal, nickel, copper, palm oil, and rare earth metals. He gave examples, for instance the export of palm oil, for which Indonesia is a major exporter with foreign exchange earnings of US$23 billion, equal to Rp391 trillion in 2025.
Indonesia, according to Prabowo, also exported coal with foreign exchange earnings of US$30 billion, equal to Rp510 trillion in 2025. Then ferroalloys earnings reach US$16 billion or Rp272 trillion in 2025.
‘These three strategic sectors generate foreign exchange of US$65 billion, or about Rp1,100 trillion per year,’ Prabowo asserted.
However, Prabowo assessed Indonesia, while a member of the G20, has the lowest government expenditure-to-GDP ratio among G20 countries. ‘Our revenue-to-GDP ratio is the lowest among G20 countries according to the latest IMF data. We can see Mexico’s revenue ratio at 25% of GDP, India 20%, the Philippines 21%, Cambodia 15%, Indonesia 11-12% of GDP,’ he said.
