Prabowo Says Data Sovereignty Is a Foundation for National Unity

President Prabowo Subianto met the Joint Team for Drafting the One Data Indonesia Bill at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 29 October 2026. During the meeting, he stressed that data sovereignty was an important foundation for maintaining national unity amid the rapid spread of digitalisation.

“Mr President stressed that data sovereignty is an important foundation for maintaining national unity amid the current of digitalisation,” the Cabinet Secretariat said in a post on its social media account, @sekretariat.kabinet.

The strengthening of national data governance through the drafting of the One Data Indonesia Bill was discussed with representatives of the House of Representatives (DPR), academics, and relevant ministries and agencies. The post said national data integration was expected to support more accurate public services while strengthening security in information exchange.

“Data integration is expected to support more accurate public services, as well as strengthen the security of information exchange and cyber resilience,” the statement said.

The bill is also intended to establish integrated, secure and accountable national data governance. With a more integrated data system, the government is expected to have a stronger information base for delivering services to the public.

The drafting of the regulation forms part of efforts to strengthen integrated, secure and accountable national data governance, while ensuring that data is used to improve the quality of public services and safeguard Indonesia’s sovereignty.

Those attending the meeting included DPR Deputy Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal; IPB University Faculty of Human Ecology Dean Prof. Dr Sofyan Sjaf; Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Secretary Teni Widuriyanti; DPR Commission XIII member Rieke Diah Pitaloka; DPR Legislative Body Chair Bob Hasan; and DPR Expertise Agency Head Prof. Dr Bayu Dwi Anggono.
