President Prabowo Subianto explained Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP), an organisation established by the United States. Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia’s presence within the BoP enables the country to exert influence in championing Palestinian independence.

“If we are within it (the BoP), we can still influence and work towards a long-term solution, which in our view is Palestinian independence, a two-state solution,” Prabowo said, as quoted on Monday (16 March 2026).

However, Prabowo stated that plans to deploy peacekeeping forces to Gaza are currently suspended. All discussions related to the BoP are being held in abeyance due to escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Regarding the resolution of US-Iran conflict, Prabowo has offered himself as a mediator. This conflict has created uncertainty and volatility for all nations worldwide.

According to Prabowo, all parties must be willing to engage in dialogue to end the conflict. “My suggestion is always to pursue peaceful options,” he said.

Indonesia Will Not Join Military Alliances

Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia will not join any military alliance. Indonesia, Prabowo continued, consistently implements the principle of independent and active foreign policy, in accordance with the 1945 Constitution, which means not siding with any bloc of powers and actively creating world peace.

“We cannot be part of any military alliance,” Prabowo said.

Indonesia stands on its own feet, not dependent on the strength of other nations. Therefore, Indonesia must also build strong defence capabilities.

“When something happens, we cannot depend on anyone,” Prabowo said.

He added that Indonesia maintains good relations with all neighbouring countries and maintains a defensive military posture.
