JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to an active, independent foreign policy and non-aligned stance in response to the conflicts unfolding in the Middle East.

The president made this statement during a virtual ceremony inaugurating 218 bridges distributed across Indonesia on Monday, 9 March 2026.

“Wars are erupting everywhere, in almost every region of the world, particularly in the Middle East. Recently, we witnessed a major war in Europe, in Ukraine. Now nearly all the Middle East is affected. Although we are geographically far from these places, our world has truly become small,” Prabowo said, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast.

“What happens in one region will influence other regions. Our nation is on the right path. We are on a non-aligned path. We are always on the path of active independence and non-alignment,” he added emphatically.

“We do not wish to join any bloc. We respect all powers; we respect all nations. That is Indonesia. Unity in diversity within our country, but also abroad we respect all nations,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo also expressed concern about the possibility of other nations being drawn into crisis situations due to ongoing global dynamics.

“We are in a world full of danger. Powerful parties are in conflict and could drag other nations into difficult circumstances,” he said.

Prabowo stated that Indonesian society must prepare to face difficulties resulting from the Middle East conflict.

“We are not sheltering behind existing systems. We face difficulties with the intention to overcome them. We must be brave in addressing difficulties. We do not hide difficulties; we do not pretend difficulties do not exist,” Prabowo said.
