Prabowo Ready to Travel to Tehran to Facilitate Dialogue Following Iran-Israel Conflict Escalation
Jakarta — The Indonesian Government has expressed its readiness to facilitate dialogue and conduct direct mediation to contain military escalation as tensions in the Middle East intensify.
President Prabowo Subianto is reported to be willing to travel to Tehran, Iran, to help restore a conducive security environment.
This statement was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the stalled nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran in Geneva, Switzerland, which triggered mutual attacks between Israel and Iran on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
“The Government of Indonesia, specifically the President of the Republic of Indonesia, expresses its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore a conducive security environment and, should both parties agree, the Indonesian President is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its X account @Kemlu_RI on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
“Indonesia deeply regrets the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which has resulted in military escalation in the Middle East region,” the Ministry stated.
As a country adhering to an independent and active foreign policy, Indonesia has called upon all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomatic channels.
Indonesia has emphasised the importance of respecting the territorial sovereignty of every nation and resolving differences through peaceful means, as this tension has the potential to disrupt world peace.
Regarding the security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued special instructions for Indonesian nationals in conflict zones.
“Indonesian nationals in affected areas are urged to remain calm, remain vigilant, follow the directives of local authorities, and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian mission,” the Ministry stated.
Previously, nuclear talks held in Geneva, Switzerland between the United States and Iran reached an impasse.
In response to this stalemate, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on all Americans still in Iran to leave the country immediately.
“No American should travel to Iran for any reason. We again urge Americans currently in Iran to leave immediately,” Rubio stated.
Following this stalemate, mutual attacks between Israel and Iran subsequently occurred.
Israel launched a missile strike on Tehran on Saturday, 28 February 2026 morning.
In response to this attack, Iran has indicated its readiness to launch a retaliatory strike.
