Prabowo Ready to Confront Economic Mafia Resistance, Asserts National Transformation Cannot Be Stopped
President Prabowo Subianto has stated he is prepared to confront various forms of resistance from groups that have long benefited from illegal economic practices and harmed the nation. He made the remarks while leading the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.
In his speech, Prabowo noted that national economic transformation would not be straightforward, as it faces challenges from those who have profited from corruption, smuggling, and other illegal economic activities.
‘We will face obstacles, challenges, and possibly resistance from groups supporting corruption, smuggling, and illegal economic activities,’ Prabowo said.
According to the President, these groups show no concern for the nation’s future and are even attempting to weaken Indonesia from within.
‘We may face resistance from those who do not love this country and even wish to undermine Indonesia,’ he added.
Prabowo Emphasises Courage to Make Difficult Decisions
Prabowo stated that a great nation must have the courage to make important decisions for the people’s benefit, even if they are difficult to implement.
He affirmed that his leadership would not choose the safe path that only yields short-term gains at the expense of future generations.
‘As a great nation, we must have the courage to make the right decisions, however difficult. We must be willing to defend our people,’ Prabowo said.
The President also stressed that protecting the people is part of the historical responsibility he now carries as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia. He said the mandate was directly given by the Indonesian people.
Prabowo stated he does not wish to enjoy temporary comfort while ignoring the nation’s long-term interests.
Economic Inequality Under Government Scrutiny
In his speech, Prabowo highlighted economic inequality as a structural issue in Indonesia. He noted that the country’s natural wealth has for years benefited foreign entities more than the Indonesian people.
He said the added value from national natural resources has not been fairly enjoyed by the populace.
Prabowo cited this condition as a key reason for the government’s push for a Pancasila-based national economic transformation.
