Prabowo Pulls Nets with Shrimp Farmers During Major Harvest in Kebumen
The site covers an area of 100 hectares. The complex is developed using best practice modern shrimp farming through an integrated management system that includes intake channels, reservoir ponds, separation of inlet and outlet channels, production ponds, and a wastewater treatment plant (IPAL).
Prabowo went directly to the pond area. He was seen greeting the farmers on site.
Prabowo was seen taking part in pulling nets with the farmers.
He inspected the Vannamei shrimp harvest and the sorting of the harvest before sale.
Prabowo stated that with the potential present, Indonesia has a major opportunity to become the world’s top shrimp producer.
“It’s very promising; I was told earlier that one hectare can yield 40 tonnes, indeed 40 tonnes per hectare, and the price is very good at Rp 70,000 per kilogram. That equates to Rp 70 million per tonne,” he said.
BUBK Kebumen is delivering a significant economic impact. With 206 pond plots, the production value of the area reaches around Rp 67.2 billion per cycle, or potentially Rp 134.4 billion per year. The presence of the modern aquaculture complex also employs hundreds of workers.
Furthermore, Prabowo explained that the government is currently carrying out a similar project on a larger scale in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.
Meanwhile, BUBK Kebumen is positioned as an exemplar of transforming traditional aquaculture into a modern, technology-based system with better environmental governance, while also serving as a model for the development of the national fisheries sector.
So this is very good, very productive. The number of local jobs that can be absorbed now is about 650 locally, and we have already developed 2,000 hectares in Waingapu,” he added.
