Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto reportedly protested to the Chair of the Housing Task Force (Satgas Perumahan), Hashim Djojohadikusumo, over the slow pace of the 3 million homes programme.

The protest was conveyed by Prabowo to Hashim last week.

This was disclosed by Hashim during a ceremony launching residential development in support of the 3 million homes programme at Manggarai Station in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

“A few weeks ago I met with the President, speaking about this programme. He asked, ‘Why is the housing programme a bit slow? It seems slow.’ That was the impression on the President’s mind,” Hashim said.

Hashim went on to explain to Prabowo that the progress of the 3 million homes development programme is slow due to bureaucratic issues at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).

“I explained frankly that there are bureaucratic problems. The Ministry of Housing is a new ministry, only one year old, and so forth,” he said.

Despite these issues, Hashim said Prabowo still wants the 3 million homes development programme to proceed more quickly.

“But actually the President wants this to move faster, faster,” Hashim said.

Meanwhile, the construction of vertical housing on land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Indonesian Railways) is seen as accelerating the pace of housing development for the 3 million homes programme.

However, beyond programme acceleration, the vertical housing development also demonstrates that only the upper-middle class can own adequate housing.

Rather, with the 3 million homes programme, low-income groups (MBR) are expected to have easier access to adequate housing.

“I think the Coordinating Minister (for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono) mentioned earlier that there is an impression that only the upper-middle class can obtain this housing. But in reality, those who need it are not just the upper-middle class but also those below the middle class. This is why the housing task force was formed two years ago to accelerate this process,” Hashim concluded.
