Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto served as the ceremonial inspector for the military funeral of the late Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President.

Try Sutrisno was buried with military honours at Taman Makam Pahlawan (Heroes Cemetery) Kalibata in South Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026 in the afternoon. The funeral ceremony commenced at approximately 13:45 Western Indonesian Time, following the formal handover of the body by the family for military burial.

The body was handed over by Try Sutrisno’s son, Taufik Dwi Cahyono. Prabowo received the body at the cemetery and walked behind it during the procession. The ceremony continued with a brief reading of the deceased’s life history.

“I, President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, nation, and the Indonesian Armed Forces, hereby present to the motherland the soul, body, and services of the late Try Sutrisno, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 1993–1998, Commander of the Armed Forces for the period 1988–1993,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo also expressed hope that the good deeds of the deceased would be accepted in the sight of Almighty God. The coffin was then lowered into the grave accompanied by military honours and volleys of gunfire from the cemetery. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto held the red and white flag during the burial process.

Try Sutrisno died at the age of 90 at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Military Hospital in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026 at 06:58 Western Indonesian Time. His family stated that the sixth Vice President had no specific illness that caused his death. His son Taufik Dwi Cahyono indicated that his father’s health declined due to his advanced age of 90 years.

Before his death, Try had been receiving treatment at RSPAD since 16 February 2026 after experiencing a loss of appetite. Taufik noted that the RSPAD medical team and the presidential health staff had provided the best possible treatment. “He was admitted from 16 February. It was just a sudden loss of appetite, he was brought here, and his condition fluctuated, he was given medication and food,” Taufik said.
