Trade tariff negotiations between the United States and Indonesia are moving towards an agreement. President Prabowo Subianto expressed confidence that the intense negotiation process over recent months has produced a solid deal.

“I am here to finalise a major trade agreement between our two countries. We have been negotiating very intensely over the past few months and I believe we have reached a solid agreement on many issues,” Prabowo said during his address at the Gala Iftar Business Summit at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC on Wednesday (18 February 2026) local time.

Prabowo expressed hope that the trade agreement would serve as a major boost for sustainable US-Indonesia partnership and economic cooperation, noting that Indonesia and the US have already signed a number of important agreements, both between government institutions and between companies.

“As you know, we have signed several important agreements between Indonesian and US partners, both between government institutions and between companies. Among them are implementation agreements as a follow-up to the key points agreed upon between Indonesia and the US regarding the trade balance between our two countries,” he said.

Previously, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the signing of the trade tariff agreement between Indonesia and the US was scheduled for 19 February 2026. Prasetyo said that, for the time being, there had been no changes to the content of the agreement from previous discussions.

“For the time being, there have been no changes. But of course, let us all hope that perhaps during the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump there will be changes that benefit our nation and country,” he said.

Prasetyo expressed hope for more favourable figures, though he acknowledged that the final outcome would depend on the negotiation process.

“Our hope is certainly for that (a reduction). Who knows,” he said.

The US had previously set an Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff against Indonesia at 32 per cent. However, over time, the tariff could be reduced to 19 per cent as a result of negotiations.
