President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the Marsinah Museum and a rest house in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
The inauguration is a form of state tribute to the struggle for human rights and workers’ rights that Marsinah has fought for, and also reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting labour movements in Indonesia.
President Prabowo first inspected the house where Marsinah lived during her lifetime. The President also met and greeted Marsinah’s extended family.
After that, President Prabowo inspected the Marsinah Mother Museum complex and the rest house, which was built on an area of 938 square metres. The complex consists of two main buildings, namely a memorial museum and a rest house, which are expected to be an educational space as well as a space for reflection for the community.
In the museum, President Prabowo saw firsthand various collections of Marsinah’s belongings on display, ranging from factory work uniforms, bags, wallets, bicycles, to personal documents such as elementary school to high school diplomas.
A number of awards from various labour organizations were also displayed as part of Marsinah’s track record in fighting for workers’ rights.
In his speech, President Prabowo said that the inauguration of the Marsinah Mother Museum in Nganjuk Regency was an important moment to commemorate the struggle of labourers and also to honour Marsinah’s courage as a symbol of the struggle of ordinary people in fighting for their rights and justice.
The Head of State said that the presence of the museum was a rare event because it was specifically dedicated to commemorating the struggle of labourers.
“This is perhaps a rare event, maybe in the whole world there is only now a labour museum. But please check, there must be. But this is a rare event,” said President Prabowo.
The Head of State also affirmed that the Marsinah Mother Museum was built as a symbol and a milestone to commemorate the struggle of a young woman who fought for the rights of labourers and became a symbol of the struggle of the weak who do not have power and strength.
“I think this museum was established as a symbol, as a symbol and as a milestone to commemorate the courage of a fighter. A young fighter, a female fighter who fought for the rights of labourers,” said President Prabowo.
