Prabowo leads limited meeting to finalise giant sea wall construction
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto led a limited meeting with Cabinet Merah Putih ministers at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, to finalise plans for the construction of the giant sea wall as one of the national strategic projects. According to the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram page (@sekretariat.kabinet), the project is designed to protect the northern coastal areas of Java Island, which play a vital role, including around 60% of the industrial zones, as well as more than 30 million residents in the affected regions. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that universities will be actively involved through contributions to research and innovation. Various tested research outcomes, including those from the Demak and Semarang regions, will form part of efforts to accelerate more efficient and targeted development. As a follow-up, the Ministry of Diktisaintek will coordinate professors and experts not only to provide technical studies but also to participate directly in the implementation team. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and Head of the North Java Coast Management Agency Didit Herdiawan Ashaf conveyed that the project is still in the in-depth planning stage. This planning particularly concerns construction aspects and the utilisation of domestic resources, including an approach that considers environmental sustainability. The government emphasised that the giant sea wall construction will not only focus on speed but also on the quality of planning. Collaboration between the government, academia, and industry players is key to ensuring that this project is technically robust, economically appropriate, and environmentally sustainable.
