Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited meeting (ratas) at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday to discuss the acceleration of the construction of the giant sea wall along the northern coast (pantura) of Java Island.

The Head of the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ), Retired Rear Admiral TNI Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, explained the meeting delved into development plans when met after the session.

“It is still in the planning stage, and we will delve deeper into activities related to construction,” he said in response to journalists’ questions.

Nevertheless, Didit stated that no time target has been set yet.

However, the President has ordered the execution of the giant sea wall construction plan to be accelerated.

“The plan from the calculations is still being computed in terms of time, as it relates to the resources available in Indonesia; we will utilise all of them,” Didit remarked.

In the same location, on a separate occasion, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto, who also attended the meeting, explained that President Prabowo has instructed universities to actively support the giant sea wall construction plan.

Brian conveyed that the giant sea wall is a strategic infrastructure that will be built because it will save 60 percent of the industrial areas and more than 30 million residents living in the northern coastal area of Java Island.

“There are many research outcomes from universities that have already been tested. One of the successful ones is in Demak, Semarang. We are also asked to participate actively. So, lecturers who have been conducting research at universities to support the acceleration and make the development of the giant sea wall more efficient are asked to get involved,” Brian stated.

At the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Indonesia, the limited meeting discussing the giant sea wall was also attended by the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, the State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and the Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
