Prabowo Invites Ulama and Leaders of Islamic Organisations to the Presidential Palace Tonight
The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, invited ulama, leaders of Islamic organisations, and leaders of pesant ren to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March. One of those set to attend is a representative of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). ‘Yes, indeed, to strengthen ties while breaking the fast,’ said MUI Secretary-General Amirsyah Tambunan via short message. Amirsyah did not elaborate on the specific topics that would be discussed at the meeting. However, he stressed that the government and ulama must synergies. He also pointed out that in the midst of global uncertainty, Indonesia must be strong and united. ‘Therefore, both are expected to work together for the welfare of the people and the nation. The President’s desire to build ties with ulama will continue, and the results of the ties should be implemented in realising the welfare of the people and the nation through economic sovereignty,’ he said. The plan for the meeting had earlier been confirmed by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar. But Nasaruddin said he did not know yet the topics to be discussed at the meeting. He said the agenda is a routine goodwill gathering. Separately, the Chairman of the MPR Ahmad Muzani said there was no possibility Prabowo would ask for views on Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP). He said Prabowo is very open to thoughts and views from all parties. ‘Tomorrow is also part of that effort; the president wishes to listen to various viewpoints, although the president will also express his own views on this issue (Board of Peace),’ Muzani said.
