Prabowo Invites Islamic Organisations to Iftar at the Presidential Palace Today
President Prabowo Subianto has invited a number of Islamic community organisations to break their fast together. The iftar will be held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar revealed the plan. ‘The President invites religious leaders, ulama, to break the fast,’ Nasaruddin said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. In addition to Islamic organisation figures, Nasaruddin said Prabowo also invited Muslim figures from other backgrounds. Scholars and heads of pesantren were also invited to come to the Presidential Palace. Nasaruddin did not reveal which Islamic organisations would be invited to break the fast with President Prabowo, noting that the number of invitations issued would align with the room’s capacity at the Presidential Palace. Ahmad Muzani, Deputy Speaker of the House and a Gerindra politician allied with Prabowo, said the Head of State could invite organisational leaders to discuss during the iftar. One topic, he said, could be Indonesia’s position on the Board of Peace. Muzani claimed that Prabowo is broadly open to the thoughts and views of all community leaders. ‘Thus tomorrow is part of that effort; the president wishes to listen to viewpoints while also sharing his own perspective on the matter (the Board of Peace),’ Muzani said on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Prabowo had previously invited several Islamic organisations to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 February 2026. The meeting discussed Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace and its impact on the Palestinian people’s struggle. Several leaders of Islamic organisations attended, including the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, and the Indonesian Ulema Council. At the time, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the President explained the reasons and considerations for joining the Board of Peace to the organisation leaders. The forum, he said, was a space to convey key policy points so that they could be understood and accepted by various groups. ‘I think this afternoon’s meeting also provides an opportunity for the President to present those points with the hope they will be understood by all,’ Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace on 3 February 2026.
