Prabowo: Indonesia-Malaysia Relations are Good, Do Not Exaggerate Disruptive Issues

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that relations between Indonesia and Malaysia are proceeding well. Prabowo requested that matters with the potential to disrupt the relationship between the two nations should not be exaggerated into significant issues.

This was stated by Prabowo following a meeting with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (18/09/2026). Prabowo confirmed that his meeting with Zahid discussed cooperation across several sectors.

“We also discussed other productive matters, including ideas for cooperation in the halal industry and other areas,” said Prabowo.

Given the extensive range of existing cooperation, he emphasised that the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia is functioning very well, and therefore, there is no need to blow minor issues out of proportion.

“I believe our relationship with Malaysia is very good; we must not allow things that might disturb us to become exaggerated problems,” he remarked.

Prabowo reaffirmed that Indonesia and Malaysia are of the same ethnic stock (serumpun). He ensured that the relationship between the two countries must be well-maintained.

“Indonesia and Malaysia are brothers. We must cooperate and we must maintain a very good relationship,” he said.
