Prabowo: If Not Up to Standard, Shut It Down – Over 1,000 MBG Kitchens Closed
The government continues to monitor the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG), or kitchens for the free nutritious meals programme, that are problematic. President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto stated that currently, around 1,030 SPPG have been closed or suspended for failing to meet requirements. He mentioned that his side is continuously cross-checking public complaints with the on-the-ground conditions of the MBG programme. “Out of tens of thousands of kitchens, we have already closed more than 1,000 (SPPG),” Prabowo said, as quoted in the Prabowo Menjawab video on Thursday (19/3/2026). “I have a Deputy Head (of BGN), one lady, this Mrs Nanik (Nanik Sudaryanti Deyang), yes. She is very strict. She conducts sudden inspections all the time,” he added. He further explained that the government is currently certifying SPPG that wish to continue operating. This certification covers standards for cleanliness, food safety, and the quality of water used. “Standardisation – if it’s not up to par, just close it or suspend it,” he added. The government also provides a toll-free telephone number to ensure the public has transparency regarding data from these SPPG, including the coordinate locations of the SPPG. “So anyone – mothers, parents, school principals – can enter and complain,” Prabowo clarified. In addition, Prabowo emphasised that the government must build a new culture in governance. Stakeholders are expected to abandon practices of reporting that do not align with facts. “Reports that are all good and rosy is not a good culture. We must be brave to face reality,” he concluded.
