JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister (Menko) for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted the capital outflow or investment capital exiting Indonesia.

“Certainly, several matters that are of concern include the President’s view on capital outflow,” said Airlangga during a press conference at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday night (5/5/2026).

Airlangga, speaking after a meeting with Prabowo, also explained the reasons behind the increase in foreign capital leaving Indonesia.

“And the capital outflow was delved into, caused by, firstly, the capital market, secondly, SBN (Indonesian government bonds), and thirdly neutralised by SRBI (Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities).”

“And it was agreed and reported to the President, an agreement of cooperation between BI (Bank Indonesia) and the Minister of Finance so that in the future this can be maintained regarding capital outflow,” he added.

The economic officials summoned to the Palace today included OJK (Financial Services Authority) Commissioner Chairman Friderica Widyasari Dewi, OJK Executive Head of Capital Market, Financial Derivatives, and Carbon Exchange Supervision Hasan Fauzi, LPS (Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation) Vice Commissioner Farid Azhar Nasution.

Then, MIND ID Main Commissioner and Finance Minister during the Soeharto era, Fuad Bawazier, LPS Commissioner Chairman Anggito Abimanyu, Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.

Furthermore, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

It is known that pressures on the rupiah exchange rate and capital outflows are considered to be pushing the government into defensive mode.

Professor at Airlangga University Rahma Gafmi assessed that policy focus needs to shift. Priorities are no longer pursuing economic expansion.

“This is no longer about pursuing expansion, but salvation. The focus is on how basic economic indicators do not collapse due to global shocks,” said Rahma to Kompas.com on Monday (27/4/2026).
