Prabowo Forms National Park Task Force with Brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo as Chair
Jakarta—President Prabowo Subianto will establish a Task Force for Innovative Financing and Management of National Parks to improve the management of 57 national parks across Indonesia.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated that the task force will be established through a Presidential Decree (Keppres).
“The task force will be established shortly through a Presidential Decree on the Task Force for Innovative Financing and Management of National Parks,” said Raja Juli following a limited meeting with President Prabowo on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
He explained that the task force is being formed because funding for the 57 national parks has been minimal. Raja Juli expressed hope that the national parks would become profit centres rather than cost centres with the establishment of the task force.
“In the sense of a profit centre, it is about how to generate revenue and funding from eco-tourism and using that money to improve our national parks,” said Raja Juli.
The task force will be chaired by Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change and Energy and Prabowo’s brother.
Following its establishment, the task force will seek innovative and sustainable funding, including involving the private sector, so that Indonesia’s national parks meet world-class standards.
“Perhaps there will be three pilot projects initially from the 57 national parks. First, Way Kambas National Park. The other two are still under discussion—one could be a mountain, for instance Mount Rinjani, which is also extraordinarily beautiful. However, thus far, I must apologise, it has not been managed optimally and to the best of our ability,” said Raja Juli.
