Prabowo Encourages Nation to Embrace the Qur'an as Source of Unity and Peace
President Prabowo Subianto attended a state-level commemoration of Nuzulul Qur’an in the year 1447 Hijri/2026 Common Era at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. The commemoration served as a moment for spiritual reflection for the Indonesian nation to strengthen the values of the Qur’an in society, national life, and governance.
In his remarks, President Prabowo invited all Indonesian citizens to use the Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration as an opportunity to strengthen their faith, draw inspiration in preserving Indonesian national unity, and realise a life characterised by peace, justice, and mercy for all. “This Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration, I believe, is an opportunity for all of us to individually understand and absorb the meaning of what is taught in the Qur’an,” said Prabowo.
Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated that the state-level commemoration this year serves as a reminder for the entire Indonesian nation to continuously make the Qur’an a source of values and guidance in national and state life. “The Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration held this evening is part of a collective effort to bring the values of the Qur’an into public life, so that its teachings are not only read, internalised, and memorised, but truly practised in daily life,” said Nasaruddin.
Prominent Islamic scholar and intellectual Muhammad Quraish Shihab delivered an exposition on the wisdom of Nuzulul Qur’an. In his sermon, Quraish Shihab called upon all attendees to contemplate the profound meaning behind the revelation of the Qur’an as a mercy and guidance for all creation. He emphasised that the Qur’an is not merely a book to be read, but must be understood, practised, and made the foundation for building an Indonesia rich in diversity.
“God wants to teach us that difference is a necessity. But difference need not cause conflict. If we differ in yesterday’s fasting, it is quite possible we will also differ in celebrating Eid. But difference causes no conflict whatsoever. The difference the Qur’an desires is the same as our nation’s philosophy, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika,” said Quraish Shihab.
