Prabowo Cites Pakistan's Salary Cuts for Parliamentarians and Ministers Amid US-Iran Conflict Impact
JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto raised the example of countries such as Pakistan that have cut salaries for members of parliament and ministers amid the crisis situation caused by Middle East conflict.
According to Prabowo, Pakistan has classified this situation as critical, comparable to the previous Covid-19 pandemic.
“They have even reduced salaries for cabinet members and parliamentary members. And all these salary savings are collected to help the most vulnerable and weakest groups,” said Prabowo during a Cabinet Meeting at the Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Additionally, Prabowo noted that Pakistan has also implemented work from home (WFH) for all government and private offices.
Furthermore, their working days have been reduced to just four days per week to conserve fuel.
“They have cut all fuel supplies for all ministries. And they have required 60 per cent of government vehicles to be unused at all times,” he said.
Prabowo stated that other countries have also halted foreign visits to achieve savings.
“They have reduced the use of government funds for parties and similar events. Then, all their higher education institutions have shifted to online, and all schools have stopped for two weeks,” said Prabowo.
