President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with several ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Wednesday (25/3). One of them was Danantara head Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, who reported on the progress of the Waste to Energy (WTE) programme, or the waste-to-energy management initiative. “Particularly in densely populated major cities such as DKI Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Bali, and other cities in Indonesia,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya via the Instagram account @sekretariat.kabinet. Teddy stated that Prabowo wants the central government to promptly manage the waste that has long been poorly handled in the regions. He said Prabowo instructed that the waste be immediately cleaned up, eliminated, and utilised to generate energy, particularly electricity. In the photo shared by Teddy, attendees also included Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister for State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Danantara is currently developing the Waste to Energy project. They have selected two investors from China to work on the project in Bekasi and Denpasar. The two are Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. Separately, Danantara Indonesia’s Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said the selection of these investors aligns with Presidential Regulation No. 109/2025. The two investors were chosen after a process involving various experienced international companies. “Today’s announcement marks an important step in ensuring that Waste-to-Energy facilities are managed to the highest standards of operational reliability, safety, and accountability,” said Pandu in an official statement on Friday (6/3).
