President Prabowo Subianto held a telephone conversation with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). The two discussed the escalating conflict situation in the Middle East following the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel.

“His Majesty (Prince MBS) reviewed by telephone with the President of Indonesia developments regarding military escalation in the region and its serious impact on regional and international security and stability,” stated the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its X account, as reported Thursday (12 March 2026).

During his conversation with Prince MBS, Prabowo called for an end to military operations in the Middle East. Prabowo warned of the potential consequences if the region continued to deteriorate.

“The Indonesian President emphasised the need for an immediate cessation of military operations in the region and cautioned that such actions would undermine regional security and stability,” stated the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate following the war between Iran against Israel and the United States. Iran has launched attacks against several Gulf countries.

Most recently, Iran launched an attack on two oil tankers in Iraqi waters. One crew member was reported killed in the attack.

According to CNN International, the Director General of Iraqi Port Company Farhan al-Fartousi stated that 38 crew members were successfully rescued. The survivors were all foreign nationals.

Iran claimed responsibility for the attack on the two oil tankers. Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported that an underwater drone strike destroyed two oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday (11 March) evening.

Previously, an Iraqi security source in Basra told CNN that an Iranian vessel laden with explosives was suspected of attacking both vessels, with investigation ongoing.

The attack occurred in Iraqi territorial waters, according to the head of media at Iraq’s joint operations command, Lieutenant General Saad Maan. He described the attack as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and stated that the country had the right to take legal action.
