President Prabowo Subianto has issued a sharp directive to all cabinet members and state institution leaders ahead of Eid 1447 Hijriah. Through State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi, the presidential office has officially distributed a Circular Letter (SE) prohibiting the organisation of open house or halalbihalal celebrations conducted excessively or lavishly.

This measure is described as a direct presidential mandate to prioritise values of simplicity and social empathy. The government has highlighted the fact that many citizens remain in difficult economic conditions and some regions have been affected by natural disasters.

“We have already distributed a circular letter to all ministries and institutions. We appeal for moderation in organising open house and halalbihalal celebrations,” emphasised Prasetyo Hadi, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (17 March).

Prasetyo stressed that public officials must demonstrate high social sensitivity. In his view, it is inappropriate for state institutions to display festivity that contrasts sharply with the reality of citizens struggling to recover from difficult times.

“Many of our fellow citizens remain in difficult conditions. Therefore, we appeal for no excessive displays,” he added.

This policy follows up on President Prabowo’s directive during a full cabinet meeting last week. At that time, the head of state requested his officials provide tangible examples to the people.

However, the President also noted that economic activity should continue and celebrations need not be entirely cancelled, provided they remain within reasonable boundaries.

Regarding events at the presidential palace itself, the State Secretary has not yet confirmed whether President Prabowo will hold an open house for the general public.

The final decision is said to await evaluation of the national situation closer to the Eid holiday, estimated to fall on 20 March 2026.

The government hopes that with this circular letter, the Eid 2026 momentum will become an occasion for strengthening national solidarity without highlighting the divide of luxury between state officials and citizens.

The State Secretary stressed that the government will continue to prioritise productive and well-targeted spending.
