Prabowo Attends Business Session, Indonesia Signs Rp370 Trillion Economic Cooperation with Japan
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that President Prabowo Subianto has signed an economic cooperation agreement valued at USD22 billion, or approximately Rp370 trillion, with Japan. The signing was one of the key agendas during the President’s official visit to Japan this week. “Earlier, the President attended a business session where an economic cooperation agreement worth around USD22 billion between Indonesia and Japan was signed,” said Sugiono in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026). Sugiono added that the government is currently focusing on the economic transformation agenda. Therefore, the government is simplifying regulations to create a more conducive climate for investment and business. “(The agreement signing) demonstrates that economic relations are becoming increasingly intensive. And as conveyed by the President in his speech, Indonesia is fundamentally undertaking a transformation, particularly in the economic sector,” Sugiono further remarked. In his speech at the Business Session of the Japan-Indonesia Forum in Tokyo, President Prabowo emphasised Indonesia’s readiness to undertake a major transition towards renewable energy as part of Indonesia’s economic transformation agenda. “Japan is a very important partner for Indonesia. Economic relations between the two countries have been established for decades, marked by the strong participation of Japanese companies in various sectors of Indonesia’s economy. Japan has also consistently supported Indonesia’s economic development,” Prabowo stated. Currently, Japan is one of the largest foreign investors in Indonesia, focusing on the manufacturing sector such as automotive and electronics, as well as infrastructure and property. Prabowo also affirmed Indonesia’s openness to investment and economic cooperation with various global partners, in line with the principles of its free and active foreign policy. “The current global geopolitical situation shows that countries capable of maintaining good relations with all parties, both neighbours and major world powers, are essentially implementing rational and wise policies. In this context, Indonesia views relations with Japan as very important,” he concluded.
