Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Economic Coordination Minister Airlangga Hartarto revealed the government will conduct semiconductor training for 15,000 young people.

This initiative aims to nurture talent for the domestic semiconductor ecosystem, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to promote the industry.

‘Yesterday, the President’s directive to boost the semiconductor industry began. For the semiconductor industry, 15,000 young people will be trained in semiconductor technology,’ Airlangga stated during his speech at the National Conference on Regional Economic Development at Balai Kartini, South Jakarta, on Monday (25 May 2026).

He explained that the training programme has already commenced with 1,000 participants selected from 4,500 applicants, with the government partnering with Arm Inc.

Airlangga expressed optimism that 15,000 young participants will complete the semiconductor training within three years, which will also support silica downstreaming.

‘We are confident that 15,000 participants will be trained within three years, with various regions having silica-based potential. Therefore, silica downstreaming will be promoted alongside workforce development for the ecosystem,’ he said.

Airlangga explained that this effort aligns with the implementation of the ASEAN digital economic framework agreement, including integration with member states.

He stated that the ASEAN digital economy could grow from IDR 1 trillion to 2 trillion, and if achieved, Indonesia could generate IDR 600 trillion.

Previously, Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) and Arm Limited signed a cooperation agreement in London, UK, on Monday (23 February 2026). Under the agreement, Indonesia will send 15,000 engineers to master semiconductor design.
