Prabowo, wearing a brown safari suit, was seen personally welcoming Megawati as she stepped out of the car. Deputy Speaker of the DPR and Daily Chairman of Gerindra, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, was also present to welcome her.

Megawati was accompanied by her daughter, who is also the General Chair of the DPR, Puan Maharani. Megawati and Puan appeared coordinated in blue-themed batik outfits.

Prabowo Holds Megawati’s Hand

During the occasion, a warm moment occurred between Prabowo and Megawati. Prabowo held Megawati’s hand as they climbed the stairs to enter Merdeka Palace.

After that, inside Merdeka Palace, Prabowo’s son, Didit Hediprasetyo, and his special aide, Rizky Irmansyah, were seen welcoming Megawati’s arrival.

They appeared to chat in the central room of Merdeka Palace, and subsequently held the meeting. Prabowo, Megawati, Dasco, and Puan were seen sitting at one table.

Prabowo stated that the meeting continued the rapport among national leaders.

“On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received Indonesia’s fifth president, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the rapport among national leaders,” he said.

Content of the Meeting

Meanwhile, the content of the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati was revealed by PDIP. Hasto Kristiyanto, PDIP’s Secretary-General, explained the details of their meeting.

“It is true that today, Thursday, 19 March 2026, a meeting was held between the two leaders, President Prabowo Subianto and Ibu Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. In the meeting, Ibu Megawati was accompanied by Mbak Puan Maharani,” Hasto said in his statement on Thursday (19/3).

Hasto mentioned that Megawati and Prabowo met for 2 hours. “Ibu Megawati conveyed to me that it was a meeting between old friends and took place amicably for more than 2 hours,” he added.

One of the topics discussed was national and state issues as well as geopolitical matters, particularly those occurring in the Middle East.

“In the meeting between the two leaders, strategic matters regarding national and state issues, as well as various geopolitical problems, were discussed. Ibu Megawati’s extensive experience, especially as Indonesia’s Fifth President who managed multidimensional crises, including various policy approaches that always emphasise the importance of sense of priority and sense of urgency, was one of the topics discussed in the meeting,” Hasto explained.

Furthermore, Hasto said that Prabowo and Megawati also discussed Indonesia’s position with its free and active foreign policy. Megawati, according to Hasto, also explained her visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

“Likewise, regarding geopolitical issues, particularly Indonesia’s pioneering role in the Asian-African Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, and various important roles in building a new world order through free and active foreign policy. On that excellent occasion, Ibu Megawati also recounted her most recent visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” Hasto stated.

Hasto also emphasised that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati was for the interests of the people and the state. With the aim, he said, of collaboratively building Indonesia.
