Prabowo Agrees to Strengthen Kompolnas, Making Its Recommendations Binding
This was conveyed after the Police Reform Acceleration Commission submitted its report to President Prabowo. During the meeting, Prabowo agreed with the strengthening of Kompolnas. “As something new, the President strongly agrees to the strengthening of Kompolnas,” said Jimly at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). With this strengthening, Kompolnas membership will no longer be ex officio or based on official positions. Kompolnas will be made independent. “The Indonesian National Police Commission will be strengthened so that its decisions and recommendations are binding. And its membership will no longer be ex officio as it is now. But it is agreed that it will be independent so that the president’s oversight function over the police becomes more effective going forward, and this must be regulated in the law,” he stated. These strengthening points will be prepared in a draft law (RUU). This RUU will then be discussed in the DPR. “It has been decided that in the law, it will be submitted for the preparation process, and now there is already an RUU ready to be discussed in the DPR. There we will insert the new points from the results of this Reform Commission,” he revealed.
