President Prabowo Subianto has directly targeted energy supply issues during his first visit to Moscow, Russian Federation. Accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, this agenda marks the government’s aggressive steps to bolster national energy resilience amid global pressures.

The working visit, which took place on Sunday evening (12/4), carries a mission of energy diplomacy to expand mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.

ESDM Ministry Spokesperson Dwi Anggia stated that the presence of the ESDM Minister in the visit reflects the strategic role of the energy sector in supporting national interests amid global dynamics.

“This working visit is a continuation of the partnership between the two countries, particularly for Indonesia in terms of long-term national energy resilience,” Dwi Anggia said in a written statement on Monday (13/4/2026), quoted from detikFinance.

Anggia assessed that this meeting’s momentum opens opportunities to expand more concrete collaboration prospects in the future. The ESDM Ministry views this visit as a strategic step to strengthen cross-country energy cooperation to support sustainable national energy resilience amid global uncertainties.

Upon arrival in Moscow, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to immediately meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the continuation of energy cooperation, including ensuring stable oil supplies for Indonesia.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that the discussion is one of the main agendas in the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state.

“Continuing cooperation with the Russian government and ensuring stable national energy supplies, including oil availability,” Teddy stated.

He noted that this discussion is relevant amid geopolitical dynamics and changes in the global energy landscape that affect the balance of energy supply and demand.

In addition to energy cooperation, the two heads of state will also exchange views on global geopolitical developments. Indonesia will reaffirm its position in maintaining world stability and peace while strengthening strategic partnerships with partner countries.

President Prabowo, along with a limited entourage, departed from TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Base, Jakarta, around 23:10 WIB using a Garuda Indonesia aircraft. In addition to ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also accompanied him.

The journey to Moscow took approximately 12 hours of nonstop flight, with an estimated arrival on Monday morning local time. Upon arrival in Moscow, President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with President Vladimir Putin in the afternoon.

Previously, Bahlil had mentioned the option of purchasing oil from Russia on Tuesday (17/3/2026). At that time, he stated that the government is open to importing oil from countries other than the Middle East and the United States (US), including Russia.

“All countries are possible. What is important for us now is how the goods are available, and second, the price is competitive. That is the most important,” Bahlil said when met at the ESDM Ministry, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (17/3/2026).

When reconfirmed about the certainty of Russia as one of the options besides the United States, Bahlil emphasised that the possibility is not ruled out.

“Yes, why not? Even America has now opened up to Russia,” Bahlil said.
