President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the acceleration of the national downstreaming programme, which will be developed in 13 locations across Indonesia to increase the added value of domestic commodities on Saturday (25/4/2026). This strategic plan includes expanding the downstreaming sector, no longer limited to mineral commodities, but extending to agriculture and marine industries.

Investment Minister and Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani explained that future investment focus will target several main fields. These sectors include processing waste into energy (waste to energy), mineral resources, agriculture industry, labour-intensive sectors, and garment industry, as reported by Detik Finance.

The meeting between the head of state and the Investment Minister took place in Hambalang to align targets for industrial processing development in various regions. This step is taken to ensure the distribution of new economic centres outside the conventional energy sector.

“Thank you, Mr President Prabowo, for today’s guidance in Hambalang regarding the development of the downstreaming programme, which will subsequently be built in 13 locations in Indonesia,” said Rosan, the Investment Minister and Head of BKPM.

The government is currently striving to diversify downstreaming to touch sectors directly related to food security. Expansion into agriculture and fisheries is considered key to creating a more resilient and sustainable economic structure.

“Downstreaming is not only in the energy and mineral fields, but also expanded to agriculture and fisheries sectors. Investments in Indonesia, God willing, will increasingly add value, open more job opportunities, and drive the national industry to become more competitive,” explained Rosan, the Investment Minister and Head of BKPM.

This downstreaming expansion policy is projected to absorb a large number of workers through strengthening labour-intensive sectors. BKPM is committed to attracting quality capital that can drive the competitiveness of Indonesian manufactured products in the international market.
