PPRT Bill Bans PRT Recruiters With Foundation Status
Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR, Willy Aditya, has revealed several points in the draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) that is currently under discussion in the DPR. He said the progress of the bill is still in the drafting stage, because the bill has now become a DPR-initiated initiative. Nevertheless, the DPR will start absorbing public aspirations by inviting several civil society organisations. ‘Whereas previously there was Surpres and DIM (daftar inventarisasi masalah), this time it is being redrafted,’ Willy said when contacted on Wednesday (4/3).
The NasDem politician said the PPRT bill will contain several points, particularly regarding protection of domestic workers. He stressed that the PPRT bill aims to eradicate modern slavery. ‘Because in today’s era there are still processes that resemble slavery,’ Willy said.
Secondly, he explained, the PPRT bill will ensure all labour recruiters are legally constituted. Therefore, the bill will change the status of recruiters who are currently generally in the form of foundations. ‘Back then these were all foundations. It is not acceptable that they are businesses under a foundation cover. It isn’t allowed,’ Willy said.
Thirdly, he continued, the PPRT bill wants to ensure all domestic workers receive the National Health Insurance (JKN). The government and the DPR will subsequently study their contribution groups. ‘Well, whether we include them in the PBI (Penerima Bantuan Iuran) group. That is what then must be calculated, as I said earlier,’ Willy said.
