BPBD DKI Jakarta has urged residents to heighten vigilance against potential hazards from strong winds forecast for 4-5 March 2026.

“Avoid areas prone to danger such as beneath trees or buildings that are unstable,” said Isnawa Adji, Head of Implementation of BPBD DKI Jakarta, in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March.

According to him, based on information from the BMKG Maritime Weather Station Class I Maritime Tanjung Priok, strong winds are forecast to occur from night into the early hours with speeds around 20 knots, or about 37 kilometres per hour, classified as Beaufort 5.

Isnawa said the early warning of strong winds could affect the Jakarta Province, especially the waters of the Thousand Islands and Jakarta Bay, from 4 to 5 March 2026.

These conditions could generate sea waves ranging from 0.5 to 1.25 metres, likely to occur in Jakarta Bay, waters of the Thousand Islands, Bekasi-Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu.

The situation poses risks to shipping safety. Fishermen’s boats are at risk if wind speeds exceed 15 knots and wave heights above 1.25 metres. Barges face risk at wind speeds above 16 knots and waves above 1.5 metres; ferries at wind speeds above 21 knots and waves above 2.5 metres; and large vessels such as cargo ships and cruise ships at wind speeds above 27 knots and waves above 4 metres.

BPBD DKI Jakarta invites the public to monitor sea-wave information via the official site bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut and to update flood information via pantau banjir.jakarta.go.id. The public can also report potential flooding via the JAKI app. In emergencies, residents are advised to contact emergency services 112.
