The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has revealed that there is potential for the city’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) line to be extended to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area and directly connected to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

During the inauguration of the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, Pramono stated that the development of the LRT line from Velodrome to PIK 2 is now being considered.

He explained that this plan is an important part of improving Jakarta’s integrated public transportation system.

“Earlier, I whispered to the CEO of Agung Sedayu, perhaps it is time to open the LRT line from Velodrome to here (PIK 2),” said Pramono during the inauguration of the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, North Jakarta, Sunday (17/5), as reported by Antara.

He added that this expansion would be a strategic step to strengthen connectivity between areas in Jakarta, especially in the northern region.

The current LRT development has already received approval from the central government up to the Ancol area.

“For the LRT, the route has actually been approved by the central government up to Ancol,” said Pramono.

He stated that developing the transportation network in North Jakarta is a strategic step to improve connectivity between areas.

The current LRT line under development connects Velodrome to Manggarai. It spans approximately 12.2 kilometers and includes 11 stations.

This project costs around Rp11.5 trillion and is targeted for completion in August.

Pramono explained that the next phase of development will include a route passing through Tanjung Priok, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and towards Ancol. If this route is connected, the entire transportation network in Jakarta will be fully integrated.

“If this continues from Velodrome to North Jakarta, Tanjung Priok, from Tanjung Priok to JIS, from JIS to Ancol, then the next section that needs to be prepared is the connection from Ancol to PIK 2 and connected to Soekarno-Hatta Airport,” said Pramono.

Currently, according to Pramono, Jakarta’s public transportation connectivity rate has reached around 93 percent. The DKI Provincial Government is working to complete the remaining unconnected loop lines.

Pramono hopes that this development will not only reduce traffic congestion but also increase public interest in using public transportation.

The planned LRT expansion to North Jakarta and PIK 2 is expected to be a strategic long-term project in realizing a modern and integrated transportation system in the metropolitan area.
