Post-Train Collision Tragedy, Bekasi-Cikarang DDT Project Becomes a Priority
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has stated that the double-double track (DDT) project for the Bekasi-Cikarang route will become a priority following the collision between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and KRL Commuter Line trains at Bekasi Timur Station. Dudy explained that the DDT segment from Bekasi to Cikarang will be prioritised as part of the evaluation of the railway accident at Bekasi Timur Station. “Naturally, as part of our evaluation for the double-double track,” said Dudy at Bekasi Timur Station on Tuesday (28/4/2026). He added that the DDT project for the Bekasi-Cikarang segment will be a joint programme with electrification up to Cikampek. “This also relates to electrification, which is already part of our evaluation of KAI services, especially for KRL,” he clarified. Currently, the operational DDT line is on the Jatinegara-Bekasi segment. The project ultimately spans from Manggarai Station to Cikarang. At present, progress on the DDT Manggarai-Jatinegara continues, with the Manggarai Ultimate construction resuming. Unfortunately, construction of the DDT Bekasi-Cikarang segment has not yet begun, making the Bekasi-Cikarang journey extremely congested as long-distance trains (KAJJ) and KRL still traverse the same track, resulting in high risk potential. On the DDT Jatinegara-Bekasi segment, KAJJ and KRL journeys are already separated, thus reducing risks. However, after Bekasi Station, the KAJJ and KRL tracks merge again until Cikarang. The DDT Jatinegara-Bekasi segment was actually operated in stages: the Jatinegara-Cakung segment officially began operations on 12 April 2019, while the Cakung-Bekasi segment started on 17 December 2022.
