`Post' newsman gets UN scholarship

UNITED NATIONS (Reuter): Journalists from Cameroon, Algeria,
Indonesia and Rumania on Tuesday were awarded a UN Correspondents
Association scholarship to cover this year's General Assembly
session, beginning in September.

The four are Joseph Bannavti of the Cameroon Post, Nacera
Banslama of the Algerian Press Service, Samsudin Berlian of
Indonesia's The Jakarta Post and Alexandra Andon of Rumania's
Adevarul Paper.

The Dag Hamarskjold Memorial Scholarship Fund, set up in
memory of the former UN secretary general, is designed mainly to
help Third World journalists cover annual Assembly sessions.

Since its establishment in 1961, the fund has financed 114
young working journalists from 60 countries.

Samsudin will be the fourth Indonesian to have been granted
the UN scholarship.
