Post-Lebaran Holiday, Jakarta's Ride-Hailing Drivers Rejoice at Surge in Orders
The conclusion of the 2026 Lebaran joint leave has brought fresh opportunities for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers. With office workers returning, the drivers are once again benefiting from increased income.
This was expressed by Zaki (30), an ojol driver in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta. He is grateful that demand for passenger and goods transport has picked up today.
“Alhamdulillah, I went out this morning and there was no traffic, orders are starting to get busy, many heading to the office. Package deliveries from online shops are also starting up again,” said the man, familiarly known as Jek, when met by Kompas.com on Wednesday.
Jek, a native Jakartan, admitted he struggled to get orders due to the quiet activity in the capital during the Lebaran holiday.
Usually, mornings and evenings are busy with him ferrying passengers from office areas to nearby stations and bus stops.
“Normally in the afternoon, there are lots of packages because I use two apps. In the evening, I head to the office areas to pick up those finishing work. So during Lebaran, it was felt, but today it’s starting to feel good again, starting to feel alive again,” he said.
Rohman, an ojol driver specialising in goods delivery, echoed the sentiment.
“Same-day and instant orders are starting to come in. Especially from electronics shops, it seems their employees have finished their holidays and are resuming shipments,” said Rohman.
However, as a Betawi resident, he used the occasion to reconnect with family.
“For me, I was off during Lebaran too, maybe just in the evenings if I’m bored, but rarely, mostly nearby food deliveries,” he said.
Both Zaki and Rohman hope Jakarta’s economic wheels will turn normally again so they won’t struggle to earn a living.
