Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that to enhance budget efficiency, the government will implement a work-from-home (WFH) policy for one day per week. Following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Airlangga explained that this efficiency measure is a response to the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. “With the high oil prices, there needs to be efficiency in working hours. Flexibility for work from home will be opened, one day in five working days,” said Airlangga on Thursday, 19 March 2026. Regarding the technical details, Airlangga said that it will be studied further. Besides civil servants (ASN), Airlangga hopes that private companies will also adopt the policy. “The technicalities will be prepared. It is hoped that not only ASN, but also private companies and regional governments (will implement it),” he stated. Once the implementation concept is mature, Airlangga promised to inform the public promptly. He said that this one-day-per-week WFH policy will be enforced after Lebaran. However, he did not specify the exact timing. “Post-Lebaran, but we will determine the timing later,” he remarked. It is known that this WFH proposal was previously put forward by President Prabowo Subianto to address the impact of the Middle East conflict. The President acknowledged this, citing what Pakistan has done by reducing working hours to four days. “So they consider this critical, said to be critical measures. As if for them this is like our COVID era before. They implemented work from home for all offices, government and private, 50 percent working from home. Then, they cut working days to only four days,” he said.
