Finally, there is good news regarding two Indonesian ships detained in the Middle East. The Iranian government is said to have given positive signals for the two Indonesian ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is now preparing the technical aspects for passing through the strait, which Iran has closed as a result of the war against the United States (US), which is allied with Israel.

Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, stated that they are preparing the technical passage through the Strait of Hormuz while continuing to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, the two Pertamina ships, Pride and Gamsunoro, are still in the Arabian Gulf or Persian Gulf. Vega also emphasised that the crew and ship personnel have been monitored to be in safe condition so far.

“PIS, together with the Foreign Ministry, is discussing the technical aspects so that the two ships, namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, can cross the Strait of Hormuz safely,” said Vega, quoted from detikFinance on Sunday (29/3/2026).

Vega also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their full support in handling this situation.

“Since this issue arose, PIS has conducted intensive coordination with the Foreign Ministry, which has actively established diplomatic communications with relevant authorities. To date, these diplomatic efforts continue to proceed,” said Vega.

The company stated that its priority remains the safety of all ship crew, as well as the security of the ships and their cargoes.

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Iranian government has given positive signals for the passage of the two Pertamina ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The two Pertamina ships are currently said to be preparing to pass after being detained due to the war between Iran and Israel and the United States.

“We can state that based on coordination between the Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran with Pertamina, the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta, and relevant Iranian parties in Tehran, the Iranian Embassy has conveyed the positive consideration of the Iranian Government regarding the security of the passage of ships owned by the Pertamina Group in the Strait of Hormuz,” said the spokesperson for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Yvonne Mewengkang, in her statement on Saturday (28/3).

They assured that the Indonesian Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continue to coordinate with all relevant parties in efforts to ensure the safe passage of Pertamina’s ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

As is known, the Strait of Hormuz has been almost completely closed by Iran since the US and Israel attacks on the country on 28 February. That closure has resulted in the two Pertamina ships being detained there.
