JAKARTA - Two days after the government announced the eviction of Hotel Sultan would proceed on 18 June 2026, PT Indobuildco has spoken out. The company, owned by conglomerate Pontjo Sutowo, continues to manage the hotel.

Lawyer Hamdan Zoelva, representing PT Indobuildco, rejected the eviction order, stating that developments could still occur before the June 18 deadline. “We strongly oppose the planned execution, which risks creating legal issues and injustice for the nation under President Prabowo’s leadership,” Zoelva told Kompas.com on Thursday (28 May 2026).

He outlined three potential issues if the eviction proceeds. First, legal uncertainty and injustice. Zoelva claimed this could be the first instance in judicial history of an unlawful execution, as the government has not been confirmed as the rightful owner of the property.

He also warned the eviction could violate Supreme Court Circular Letters (SEMA) No. 3 of 2000 and No. 4 of 2001. Second, social problems due to the halt of business activities in the hotel area, which supports thousands of employees, tenants, vendors, and their families. He noted there is no guarantee these workers would be rehired, citing a statement from the PPKGBK director that the area will become a green open space.

Third, the eviction would disrupt national business and investment climate, as it would seize assets, buildings, and operations built, owned, and managed by PT Indobuildco. Zoelva argued this oversimplifies the legal complexities, noting the presence of hotels, business activities, workers, tenants, vendors, and third-party rights that cannot be ignored.
