Pondok Kopi Rawadas TPS Permanently Closed, Waste Redirected to Rawajaya TPS
The East Jakarta City Government, through the Pondok Kopi sub-district, has officially closed the Rawadas Temporary Waste Collection Point (TPS) in Pondok Kopi sub-district, Duren Sawit district, East Jakarta. The closure was carried out after the TPS’s capacity was exceeded due to waste from outside the area being dumped there. Pondok Kopi sub-district head Sandy Adamsyah stated that the Rawadas TPS had been used by residents from outside Pondok Kopi sub-district, leading to an accumulation of waste beyond capacity. Sandy added that the cleanup of the waste pile involved around 100 combined personnel from the Duren Sawit district Environmental Life Task Force, Gulkarmat, Satpol PP, TNI-Polri, LMK, and FKDM. Personnel also carried out spraying to eliminate the pungent odour around the former Rawadas TPS area. “The sub-district has also coordinated with the landowner to no longer accept waste from any party, whether from within or outside Pondok Kopi,” he explained. He assured that supervision would be tightened by deploying PPSU personnel and the Environmental Services to prevent illegal waste dumping from recurring at the site. Previously, Sandy had stated that he would tighten supervision of waste disposal at the Rawadas TPS. This measure was taken to anticipate waste accumulation from other areas amid operational restrictions at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Bekasi City due to a landslide. He had also threatened to close the Rawadas TPS if parties from other areas continued to dump waste there. “So if this continues in the future, I will review the Rawadas TPS again, whether it needs to be closed, and we will focus on RW 04, namely the Rawajaya TPS,” he said. Under normal conditions, the Rawadas TPS only accommodates around 10 waste carts per day. However, this number increased to more than 20 carts due to additional waste from outside the area.
