Pondok Kacang Road and Ceger Raya in South Tangerang Paralyzed as Heavy Rains Trigger Flooding
A number of main roads in South Tangerang were flooded on Sunday (8 March 2026) after heavy rain drenched the area since the early hours. A Kompas.com field observation showed two road access points impassable to vehicles due to surface flooding: Jalan Pondok Kacang and Jalan Ceger Raya. On Jalan Pondok Kacang, Pondok Kacang Timur Village, Pondok Aren District, vehicular access from South Tangerang to the city of Tangerang was cut off. Water levels on the road were estimated at around 50 centimetres, making it impossible for both two- and four-wheeled vehicles to pass. Meanwhile, on Jalan Ceger Raya, Jurangmangu Barat Village, Pondok Aren District, water levels reached around 90 centimetres. This condition renders access from Pondok Aren to Jakarta impassable for vehicles. One resident of Jurangmangu Barat, Iqbal (30), said the floods began to be visible around 03:00 Western Indonesian Time as he set out to wake residents for sahur. “I think around 03:00 WIB. We usually wake everyone for sahur at that time, but when I went to get ready, it was already flooded outside,” he told Kompas.com on Sunday. According to data from the South Tangerang Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Tangsel), there were eight flood hotspots in the Tangsel area early Sunday. More than 800 households were reported affected. Dian Wiryawan, Operational Service Dispatcher at BPBD Tangsel, said flood reports began to be received around 00:20 WIB. “There are eight observed flood points, with water depths ranging from 10 centimetres to 110 centimetres,” he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday. The eight flood points include the Pondok Safari housing complex, RW 15, Jalan Ceger Raya–Taman Mangu Indah, and the Pondok Maharta housing complex RW 09 and RW 10. A similar situation was reported in the Pondok Kacang Prima housing complex, RW 17, Kavling Bulak, Taman Mangu 1 housing estate RW 06, Jalan Oscar Raya, and Kampung Tembok Bolong. “Staff conducted assessments and remained on standby to anticipate potential subsequent flooding,” he said. BPBD also urged residents to remain vigilant for the possibility of further floods, particularly if heavy rain returns to the area.
