Polri's Food Task Force Uncovers Case of Premium Rice Not Meeting Standards
The suspects are RSS, the owner of Toko Sam Yauw, related to the premium rice brand Jelita, and SB, the President Director of PT Buyung Poetra Sembada Tbk, related to the premium rice brand Topi Koki.
“PT Buyung Poetra Sembada produced and/or traded premium rice that did not meet premium rice quality standards. The suspect set premium rice standards without undergoing a quality control process, so the contents in the packaging did not match the established premium rice composition,” said Dirtipideksus and Head of Polri’s Food Task Force Brigjen Ade Safri Simanjuntak, to reporters on Saturday (9/5/2026).
“Toko Sam Yauw produced and/or traded premium rice that did not meet premium rice quality standards. The suspect, in producing premium rice, did not use equipment that met standards and without undergoing a quality control process, so the contents in the packaging did not match the established premium rice composition,” he continued.
The case files for this case, Ade Safri continued, have been declared complete or P21 by the Public Prosecutors (JPU) of the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) and the Jakarta Timur District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Jaktim). Their case files are registered with police report numbers (LP) LP/A/23/VII/2025/SPKT.DITTIPIDEKSUS/BARESKRIM POLRI dated 23 July 2025; and LP/A/26/VIII/2025/SPKT.DITTIPIDEKSUS/BARESKRIM POLRI dated 5 August 2025.
“The results of the criminal investigation conducted by the Dittipideksus Bareskrim Polri Investigation Team, which is part of Polri’s Food Task Force, have been declared complete by the Public Prosecutors (JPU) at the Republic of Indonesia Attorney General’s Office and the Jakarta Timur District Prosecutor’s Office,” Ade Safri stated.
Suspects SB and RSS are charged under Article 62 in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph (1) letter a and/or letter f of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection; in conjunction with the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code; in conjunction with the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustment.
He explained that SB’s case file was declared complete or P-21 on 28 April 2026. Then RSS’s case file was declared complete on 5 May 2026. “As a follow-up, the investigators will carry out the transfer of evidence and suspects (Stage II) to the respective JPUs in handling the aforementioned cases on Monday, 11 May 2026,” said Brigjen Ade Safri.
“The law enforcement carried out by Polri’s Food Task Force aims to maintain the stability of national food security, ensure price affordability and stock availability, and protect consumers from fraudulent practices,” Ade Safri explained.
Ade Safri then emphasised that the main goal of this law enforcement is to maintain price and rice supply stability by ensuring that staple food prices remain stable and affordable in the market. And, he added, to prevent unjustified price spikes.
“Eradicating fraudulent practices by strictly prosecuting rogue businesses that engage in hoarding, adulteration, falsification of quality standards, or speculation that harms the public. Ensuring food safety by making sure all staple goods circulating are safe for consumption and free from hazardous materials,” Ade Safri clarified.
He further stated that the purpose of law enforcement by his side is also to maintain smooth distribution by monitoring the food distribution chain from upstream to downstream, so that it runs smoothly without obstacles and ensuring subsidised fertiliser reaches its targets. Finally, to give a deterrent effect to food crime perpetrators, in order to encourage honesty in business and maintain a conducive agricultural climate.
“Through these firm and measured actions, Polri’s Food Task Force supports national food security and protects the agricultural sector from threats that could disrupt the availability or price stability of food,” he concluded.
